OBSock: Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8/10/2026
This Privacy Policy describes how OBSock ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") handles information when you use our mobile application.
OBSock is a companion controller application for OBS Studio, allowing you to control your own OBS Studio instance over your local network or a network connection you configure.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 OBS Connection Data
OBSock connects directly to your OBS Studio instance using the OBS WebSocket protocol. This connection is established between your device and the OBS Studio instance you configure (typically on your local network). Connection details you provide — such as server address, port, and password — are stored locally on your device only, and are not transmitted to us or any third party. We do not have access to your OBS server, your stream content, or any data exchanged between your device and your OBS Studio instance.
1.2 Advertising Data (via Google AdMob)
The App displays advertisements using Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK). To deliver and measure ads, AdMob automatically collects and shares the following data types:
| Data Type | Purpose |
|---|---|
| IP address | Used to estimate general location for ad delivery |
| Advertising ID (Android Ad ID) | Used for ad personalization and measurement |
| App interactions (app launches, taps, video views) | Used for ad performance and analytics |
| Diagnostic information (app launch time, hang rate, energy usage) | Used for performance monitoring and fraud prevention |
This data is collected and processed by Google in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy and How Google uses data when you use our partners' sites or apps.
You may be able to limit ad personalization through your device's advertising settings (e.g., Settings > Google > Ads > Opt out of Ads Personalization on Android).
1.3 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or have access to:
- Your name, email address, or other account information (the App does not require account creation or login)
- Your OBS server credentials or connection details
- Any content, scenes, sources, or streaming data from your OBS Studio instance
- Precise location data
2. How We Use Information
The only data collected through the App is data automatically gathered by the Google Mobile Ads SDK for the purposes described in Section 1.2 (displaying and measuring advertisements, and preventing ad fraud). We do not use any data for purposes beyond advertising delivery and app performance monitoring.
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell or share user data with third parties, except:
- Google AdMob, as described in Section 1.2, for the purpose of serving advertisements.
We do not share any OBS connection data, stream content, or usage data with any third party, because this data never leaves your device (excluding your direct connection to your own OBS Studio instance).
4. Data Security
All data transmitted by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit. OBS connection settings stored locally on your device are not transmitted off-device by the App.
5. Data Retention and Deletion
- OBS connection settings stored locally on your device can be deleted at any time by clearing the App's data/storage through your device settings, or by uninstalling the App.
- Advertising data collected by Google AdMob is retained and managed according to Google's own data retention practices. You can review or manage this through your Google Account's Ad Settings.
Since the App does not support account creation, there is no account-level data for us to delete on request. If you have questions about data associated with your device's Advertising ID, please refer to Google's My Activity and Ad Settings pages.
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the relevant age of digital consent in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us using the information below so we can address it.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction (e.g., under GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), you may have rights regarding data collected about you, including the right to access, correct, or delete such data, or to opt out of certain data processing. Because the App itself does not collect personal data beyond what is described in Section 1.2, such requests relating to advertising data should generally be directed to Google via the links provided above. You may also contact us with any questions.
8. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
